General

Start here for the fundamentals: what these fibers are, where they come from, and the standards behind every bale we ship. Everything in this section applies equally to banana fiber and pineapple leaf fiber, and the answers link out to the product and process pages where a topic needs more depth.

Banana fiber is a natural bast fiber extracted from the pseudostem — the fibrous trunk — of the banana plant. Individual strands run 1.0–3.0 m long at 80–250 microns diameter, with a golden color and a lab-tested tensile strength of 500–900 MPa. It is used for rope, paper, non-wovens, composites, and — after cottonization — yarn.

The detailed numbers behind our banana fiber: extraction, strength, applications, and how it compares to abaca. These are the questions spinning mills, rope makers, and paper buyers ask most often — for the full extraction story, see our process page.

By mechanical decortication: the harvested pseudostem is split and fed through rollers and blades that crush the pulp and scrape away non-fibrous material, leaving long fiber strands. No chemicals, boiling, or retting are used. The fiber is then washed and dried to 9–12% moisture before grading. See our process page for the full step-by-step.

Pineapple fiber

PALF is the premium half of our range — finer, more lustrous, and scarcer than banana fiber, which is why it commands higher prices and different applications. These answers cover its properties, processing, spinning behavior, and the Piñatex question we hear more than any other.

PALF is a silky natural fiber extracted from the long leaves of the pineapple plant, also known as piña fiber. It contains 70–82% cellulose, has a silvery-white luster, and strands run 40–90 cm at 20–60 microns fineness (1.8–3.2 tex). Tensile strength is 400–700 MPa.

Ordering & shipping

The commercial details: what it costs, minimum quantities, sampling, payment, and how your bales reach your port. All terms here match our wholesale page exactly, and every figure is confirmed again in your written quotation — nothing changes between the FAQ and the proforma.

Our indicative FOB Chattogram band is $4.00–5.50/kg for raw banana fiber depending on grade (Textile at the top, Industrial at the bottom), and roughly $6–10/kg for raw PALF. Cottonized grades are quoted per spec. Final pricing is confirmed in a written quotation within 24 hours — see the wholesale page for the full bands.
